do people even read this?

wow. it's actually been over a month since my last post.
a lot has happened since june. some amazing gigs. such as the one i last posted about, 'i used to skate once'. the zoo was packed full of skaters and boards that had been decorated by artists all over the world. accompanied by some amazing local acts such as stemford hiss and kirin. j. callinan. secret birds performed, which consist of roughly four drummers, four guitarists, three singers, with a bit of tamborine, synth and xylophone dropped in here and there.
here are a few photos from the night, taken megan cullen.

in other news, some important events occurred, such as my eighteenth.
"fucking finally", as stated by kelsey at her text message at exactly one second past midnight to wish me a happy one.
for the night we journeyed over to fairweather warehouse to see a mass of prep teenagers in mini skirts and high heels. note: it's a warehouse in the middle of newstead.
last dinosaurs, the cairos and newcomers - the parties of interzone performed, and what was sure to be a good night ended in brawls, people being thrown into braziers, people being carried out by paramedis, and last but not least, it being called off early due to the cops, therefore not allowing comic sans to perform. all in all, a fun night, to what didn't seem like a birthday considering i've had a fake id for two years now. way to ruin it.

heads up for some more gigs coming soon.
this tuesday night at rics bar, the parties of interzone supporting the goldentones.
come before 9pm and get $4 BEER LAO! (the only reason i go early)

then for the weekend, my good friend samwise is celebrating his birthday by playing a gig.
be sure to make it to the troubadour on friday night for last dinosaurs, the parties of interzone and teleprompter. for more info head to the facebook event: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=96702102700

then for a sweet afterparty, yuksek is playing at the empire hotel. supporting acts include dz, and charlie why!: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=116402237952

yours truly,
enigma.

i used to skate once.

wander down winn st in the valley (the little one way street next to the zoo) and you’ll find the outpost , a retail store with a style that invokes laneway escapades in melbourne and a unique edge that identifies as a distinctly brisbane view on local and international culture. from men’s and women’s clothing, to books, zines and music, the curatorship of global independent brands and products for the store is annually extended to an art exhibition with a difference.

'i used to skate once' is a skate art / music event featuring local, interstate and international creative people that the outpost admire. with fifty six local and international artists showcased and some fine local sounds on offer, this is truly an event not to be missed.

this years 'i used to skate once' is hosting the artwork of brett chan, stefan marx, mark drew, jesse olsen, and a whole swagger of even more local talent; this years installment is sure to be a killer. not only do you have all those amazing decks to hang your eyes from, but kirin. j. callinan (formerly mercy arms guitarist), stemford hiss, secret birds, and doom doom will be sating any aural desires you may have on the night.
this event takes place this thursday at the zoo from 6pm. it's free, and sure to be one heck of a night.

i can't wait til i make it in the music business.

bats and red riders.

on saturday we attended the bats issue four launch party.
it was one heck of a day which consisted of free drinks and good music such as,
we were arks, teleprompter, comic sans and last dinosaurs.

afterwards, we rocked on to red riders.
it had been almost two years since i had seen them live, but they were still amazing.

inspiring.

1) battles,
this is my all time favourite song due to it being experimental rock music in its prime. i would kill to be able to play such amazing music. i saw these guys at big day out 08 and was so shocked at how incredible such a simple thing can sound.

not to mention how amazing infected mushroom are.
but everyone knows that.

sexual breakfast.

so the other day, our gang hustled over to the children collide gig, in the most embarassing all ages place it could ever have taken place in - city beach.
we were severely anxious to not be seen and ruin our street cred, but what the fuck, children collide are amazing live so we strolled on in and enjoyed their set.
except for the johnny-loving skitz that was standing behind us who we failed to escape from.

afterward we went to rics bar and tahni bought seven of us breakfast!
as the title suggests, it wasn't a normal meal..

so on saturday night our gang went to the globe to witness three incredible bands play.
a) stemford hiss: http://www.myspace.com/stemfordhiss
b) last dinosaurs: http://www.myspace.com/wearelastdinosaurs
c) lost valentinos: http://www.myspace.com/lostvalentinos

all bands played amazingly, and it was actually the best night we've had out considering alcohol was severely overpriced and we had to wait two hours in the bathroom to prevent being kicked out.
here are some photos taken by everyone and anyone.

p.s. valentinos set list. SCORE!
